Hendrix Medical completed the installation and integration of four surgical lights across two operating rooms for the Project Rochester engagement, configured as two dual-mount systems using Amico-manufactured equipment. The scope included full de-installation of the existing classic dual light suspension systems, on-site receiving and staging of all equipment, structural preparation, electrical integration, and a final quality assurance walkthrough to confirm operational readiness for the hospital.
How Coordinated Surgical Lighting Upgrades Modernize Operating Rooms Without Disrupting Workflow
Surgical lighting upgrades require careful planning around tight room access, structural compatibility, and integration with existing facility utilities. For the Project Rochester engagement, Hendrix Medical was tasked with replacing aging dual light suspension systems across two of the hospital's operating rooms with new surgical lights — manufactured by Amico — configured in a dual-mount arrangement.
Equipment logistics presented the first field consideration. Doorframe size constraints meant the full skid shipment could not be moved as a single unit, so the team broke down the shipment and transported every component to the rooms via flat cart while maintaining a clear inventory throughout staging. Once equipment was on-site, the team removed both legacy suspension systems and prepared existing structural plates with a magnetic drill to accept the new mounting hardware.
Electrical integration was coordinated alongside an on-site electrician brought in late in the project schedule. The Hendrix team provided on-the-spot guidance to walk the electrician through the installation sequence, keeping power integration on track without compromising quality. After both dual light systems were installed, Hendrix Medical conducted a video walkthrough for the client, who confirmed full satisfaction with the completed work before handover.
Logistics & Receiving
Received and inventoried all equipment on site.
Broke down the full skid shipment to bypass doorframe size constraints.
Transported components via flat cart to the installation rooms.
Staged all equipment for sequenced installation across both operating rooms.
De-installation & Structural Preparation
Removed two existing classic dual light suspension systems from both operating rooms.
Used a magnetic drill (Magdrill) on existing structural plates.
Prepared mounting locations to accommodate the new Amico-manufactured mounting hardware.
Verified structural readiness before introducing new suspension components.
Installation & Electrical Integration
Installed two dual light suspension systems — one per operating room.
Connected existing facility power to the new power supply box.
Coordinated electrical integration with the on-site electrician.
Provided on-the-spot instruction to a last-minute electrician acquisition to keep the schedule on track.
Quality Assurance & Handover
Performed alignment, functional checks, and final verification of installed lighting systems.
Conducted a video walkthrough for the client to confirm installation quality.
Secured the client's confirmation of full satisfaction before handover.
Completed the full surgical lighting upgrade across both of the hospital's operating rooms.
Project Impact
The completed installation delivered four new surgical lights across two of the hospital's operating rooms in a clean, dual-mount configuration, modernizing surgical illumination while preserving the project schedule despite a last-minute electrician change. The client confirmed full satisfaction with the work during the final video walkthrough, leaving both rooms ready for clinical use.
